What To Pack In Your Hospital Bag For You And Your Baby?

what to pack in your hospital bag for you and your baby

Throughout my first pregnancy, I relied on a couple of books to give me all the answers to my questions. This time around, I relied on books and some of my favorite blogs.

One of the things I researched in advance was “what to pack in your hospital bag.” I wanted to make sure that I have everything I need.

And after having to stay in the hospital for more than a month before giving birth I think I have it all figured out now. I know exactly what I needed, what I didn’t bring at first (thankfully Gio was able to bring it for me) and what I got and I didn’t use.

Take a look and see what my hospital essentials were.

WHAT TO PACK IN YOUR HOSPITAL BAG FOR YOU

TOILETRIES

+ toothpaste, toothbrush, floss

+ hairbrush, hair ties

+ body lotion or body oil

+ lip balm

+ shampoo, conditioner

+ face wash, body wash

+ deodorant

+ moisturizer, eye cream

+ makeup essentials, makeup remover wipes

+ Q-tips

+ prenatal vitamins

+ mesh underwear (very helpful, especially if you are delivering with a C-section)

HEALTHY SNACKS

Staying in the hospital can get quite tedious, and you might end up reaching for snacks quite often. It is way better to be prepared and bring some healthy options with you, so at least you reach for the better stuff. Get some dried fruits, nuts, protein bars, lots of water, mints, gummies and some whole-grain crackers. Oh, and prunes (we all know why and they are more than needed during pregnancy)! Check if the rooms have a small fridge. Mine did, so I brought some carrots, olives, cherry tomatoes, cut fruits, cheese and portion sized plain yogurt. Fruits and veggies are the best healthy snack out there.

TOWEL

Although most hospitals provide towels, they are usually tiny. If that is something that will bother you, I’ll recommend you to bring a towel with you.

FLIP FLOPS, SLIPPERS, ROBE, SOCKS, COMFY PJs

Get flip flops for the shower and slippers for the room. If you want to bring less stuff, just get the flip flops.

Robes are handy to quickly throw on top of your PJs and walk the hallway.

If you plan on breastfeeding, get a nightgown with buttons

NURSING BRAS

You just need one or two nursing bras in the hospital. Pick something that is comfortable and made of soft material. After reading a lot online, I ended up buying these bras. I like them because they come with extenders and removable pads. Also, I would recommend you size up when you order any maternity bras.

DOCUMENTS

+ Wallet & ID

+ Insurance card

+ Birth Plan

ELECTRONICS + CHARGERS

Laptop/iPad and your phone.

I don’t go anywhere without my phone. If I’m going to be away for more than a day, then I wouldn’t go without my laptop. It is just how I am. All of my devices sync together, so I have everything I need with me.

Also, I didn’t bring books with me to the hospital. Instead, I had my e-books with me and read them on my Kindle app.

WHAT TO PACK IN YOUR HOSPITAL BAG FOR YOUR BABY

+ DIAPER BAG

+ DIAPERS + WIPES + PACIFIER (optional)

I did use a pacifier with my daughter and I am using one with my son. I think babies find it quite relaxing, especially because they are born with a sucking reflex and sucking calms them down. But I know there are many moms that do not want to use them. It is completely up to you!

+ BLANKET + RECEIVING BLANKET

+ MITTENS, HAT, PJs

+ TAKE HOME OUTFIT

When I was pregnant with Belle, I don’t remember buying a “take home outfit” for her. However this time around, I bought Liam a going home outfit (I got the Starry Chevron). He was adorable when he left the hospital. :)

+ CARSEAT

So there you have it! That’s what I packed in my bag for my stay in the hospital.

Hopefully, this list will help you get ready for your hospital stay. My biggest advice is to pack everything early. It’s better to have everything ready than stress out to pack everything in the last-minute.
