How to Style a Coffee Table

Coffee tables are the main focus of the living room and I’ve always thought it says so much about a person’s home. I thought this post will give you some inspiration and ideas on how to style a coffee table in your home.

  • Trays

Trays are an easy way to keep things organized. You can pick the style and shape of the tray depending on the shape and style of your coffee table. It’s good to keep in mind, how your whole living room is going to look. Are you going for a traditional, modern or country-style? I personally like the rectangle trays because I like stacking coffee table books inside and a circle or a square tray will not fit this purpose as well. In the end, it’s all about personal taste and how you plan to use your tray.

  • Coffee Table Books

Coffee table books are my favorite decor for a coffee table. The best books that work for that purpose are hard-covered photo books. You can pick the subject of your book depending on your personal interest. Fashion and travel are the most common type of coffee books. My sister-in-law and her husband took a trip to Italy and France, then made coffee table books with all of their pictures and I think that’s a wonderful idea to show your guests where you’ve been. Making your own coffee books would bring interesting conversations and stories that you can tell your guests.

  • Bowls & Fillers

Another way to decorate a coffee table is to use bowls and fillers. One way to do that is to place them on top of your coffee table books or on the opposite side of your tray to give balance to the decor on the table.

  • Mix It Up

You want to have different textures, shapes, and colors that will show your personal style. You can repeat certain shapes, but don’t use only rectangle objects or all silver ones. Instead mix it up with different heights, metals, and styles.

  • Sculptural Elements

If you want to break it up a bit, you can add a fun sculptural element to your coffee table decor like this Eiffel tower stand, coral piece or this elephant figurine statue.

Add life and color to your decor by adding a vase with fresh flowers.

I know my way around a mall, or department store…but not so much when it comes to home decor.

I love this. Totally book marking it for the future. I know this is crazy, but we don’t have a coffee table! We’ve been using an ottoman, and that so needs to change!
